If a bacterium carries several resistance genes, it is called multiresistant or, informally, a superbug (Wikipedia)
Super Bugs refer to an anti-biotic resistant organism that can cause dangerous infections, sometimes fatal. These incredible organisms are becoming more prevalent in our society. Anti-biotics have been used so freely over the years to treat such a wide variety of complaints that these superbug bacteria don't respond when treated with them. Some practitioners resort to using fairly toxic forms of treatment to try and bring them under control, often without success.
These super bugs don't seem to discriminate against age, race or health status. Even people in the prime of their life that appear healthy can be affected in such a short amount of time. One of the more common super bugs that afflicts people is called MRSA - methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. More than 130,000 people each year need hospital care for MRSA, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is a scary fact.
There are a number of things we can do to try to avoid possible contamination which could result in an unwanted infection:
- Basic Hygiene - Wash your hands, alot! It seems alot of people don't follow this simple rule. This is how cross-contamination occurs.
- Eat well - Eat healthful, well balanced meals
- Avoid stress as much as possible
- Strengthen your immune system
- Keep your mineral levels up
- Keep hydrated
- Enjoy the sun - your source of Vitamin D
- Maintain Essential Fatty Acid levels
- Exercise regularly
- Rest!
